Certainly I didn't know the people very well but we were in the garden and we might as well take those photographs now that we had come with camera and all. We were just about to depart when a rather nice cat strolled towards us. Much cat conversation ensued as we were shown around every nook and cranny of the garden (we had to pretend we had only just arrived he was so keen to do the honours). We barely completed the tour when another cat came "Oh hello, who are these people?" "I don't know I'm just showing them over the place." "I'll come too" said the persian....

Then they both decided that they had had enough of visitors and squatted down by a sweet alyssum to amuse themselves with a bee. This meant another exposure and we eventually left having used four [negatives] on the cats. "Aren't they lucky to have two such nice cats?" T. said.

"Yes, I'll send them a print if they're any good."

Months afterwards I remarked "I know she got it alright because it was delivered in person." "Oh yes, she got it alright" their friends told me later "but they weren't her cats, and she's had an awful row with the neighbours over the unwelcome visitations apparently!"
