Edna Walling was a signatory on a petition to the Minister for Lands, Lands Department, Melbourne. The signatories requested that "Big Hill" on the Great Ocean Road be declared a sanctuary. Her request was noted by the Minister of Lands, 12-5-1950.

Edna Walling sent several more letters in support of a sanctuary at Big Hill. Big Hill is now a part of the Angahook-Lorne State Park.
