"I never imagined that I'd end up living on the street." |
"What if I end up like that?" |
|
Sometimes when I was watching TV, this is when I was just about to go to school, sometimes there'd be pictures of people working, people collecting second-hand goods, or buskers. I'd wonder, "Is there anything good about living on the street?"
"Poor things," I'd say. "Don't you feel sorry for them, Mum?" "They've got nowhere to live, Ros," she'd say. "What if I end up like that?" I'd say. "Will my life be like that?" That's what I said. "Why are you talking nonsense?" Mum said. "You should be grateful that you live in a house," she said. I was still young, still in primary school. |
