Subject/s: Caption adhered to verso reads: The grass-tree was described by Charles Darwin as "a plant which has some affinity with the palm, but instead of a crown of noble leaves, it can boast merely a tuft of coarse grass." They are called "blackboys" because of the long flower-spear, close set with ivory flowers, that rises above the "crouching" form of the leaves.
