What a sad thing it is when there are vast numbers of any tree they are cleared away in such a wholesale manner, that seldom are any left to tell the tale. ... To dub Melaeucas and Lepospermum as 'Scrub' has resulted in the wholesale burning off of these two species in places where they could otherwise be spared: on roadsides and in small parks which are all the better for having these trees growing naturally on them.

Many pieces of the country are cleared of natural growth by unsympathetic councils, ignorant of the beauty and value of that which they so energetically 'clean away'.
