For sheer restfulness, Spanish gardens with their sheltered cloisters, sombre evergreens, paved courtyards, refreshing water features and climbing plants and pot plants ... seem much superior, much more serviceable, than Australian gardens as a whole.

It is really rather amazing that we have copies of the English style rather than Spanish and Italian...
