Alistair Smith began work in the late 1940s on Walling's house at East Point, Lorne. His family lived nearby and his parents owned a house in Colac that had a Walling garden.
Alistair Smith:
owned and managed "The Arab" cafe, Lorne,
owned and managed the "Wild Colonial Club", Lorne,
ran the "Abominable" restaurant at Mt. Buller, and
worked with aboriginal youth and unemployed people in various community based programs.
