This volume is a collection of the articles entitled "Letters to Garden Lovers", written by Walling for the "Australian Home Beautiful" magazine. A second edition was published by Macmillan in 1969, and includes an introduction by R.T.M. Pescott, Director of the Royal Botanic Gardens in Melbourne. He writes of Walling: "she sets out to record the day to day observations of what she has done, quoting both failures and successes, but making the reader feel that he is receiving a personally escorted tour of something that is very precious to the designer and the creator."

A new edition was produced by Margaret Barrett and published by Anne O'Donovan in 1985.
