The La Trobe Picture Collection and Australian Manuscripts Collection of the State Library of Victoria rely heavily on the generous donations of interested individuals and organisations to help build their collections.

The primary source material that makes up the Edna Walling Collection at the State Library of Victoria has come from a number of very generous individuals. They are:

-Mrs. Barbara Barnes, Edna Walling's niece and copyright owner of Edna Walling's work. Mrs. Barbara Barnes has generously donated thousands of photographs and manuscripts to the State Library of Victoria.

-Mrs. V. M. Burston, also a niece of Edna Walling's, has jointly donated (with Mrs. Barbara Barnes) Edna Walling's photographic archive and manuscripts.

-Mr. Glen Wilson, Edna Walling's student in the 1950s and garden designer and photographer in his own right, gave the Library his collection of 152 garden plans by Edna Walling in 1991. These plans had been given to him by Walling so that he could study them in his student years.

-Ms. Mervyn Davis, landscape architect, founder of the Australian Institute of Landscape Architects and friend of Edna Walling, donated 150 garden plans by Walling in 1978. These plans had been given to her by Walling before she left for Queensland.

-Mr. Peter Watts, of the National Trust and author of a biography of Edna Walling, donated two albums of photographs consisting of over 100 images in 1992. Edna Walling's secretary had given these to him for his research in 1978.

-Mrs. C. M. Howell donated the beautiful watercolour plans of the garden at "Eurambeen" in 1979.
