The last time I came down from Hamilton by plane I thought to myself, "Must tell the Garden Lovers of the excellence of flying from the point of view of landscape gardening." Especially would one recommend it to those who would become proficient in the drawing of landscape plans, for from a few thousand feet up there is laid out beneath a perfect guide - the little round blobs that are trees with dense shade on one side. How infinitely interesting it is to observe the green tinge of the ground on the southeast side of the trees. It would seem that there is wisdom in planting and preserving trees from more points of view than that of creating shade and shelter for the cattle.
"Trees take so much out of the ground", say gardener and farmer alike. Yes, but ...well you can think it out for yourselves, certainly there was no doubt about that green patch on the shady side of every tree in an otherwise burnt-up pasture.
